PET PEEVE FOR LONELINESS

enrichment project

Over the summer after 8th grade, one of my mother's best friends went on a trip with her family and was away for an entire month. Sadly, they were not able to take their dog with them. Enter Bara. I walked to her house with my dog, then fed their dog, and finally I was picked up by my mom on the way back. I plan to take care of pets during this year, mostly when owners are away or simply just walking them.

I have been taking care of my own pet, Sasha, while I work on this project. This helps me not only take out two birds with one stone, but also motivates me since it will be fun for her to meet other dogs and excercise.

While one of my parent's friends left town, I volunteered to take care of their dog. She is a one year old puppy that loves to go on walks, so I catered to what she wanted to do and had loads of fun. This went on for a week, in which I went daily to their home and fed, played with and walked their beagle.

Another job I had was walking one of my mother's tennis friends' dog. She lived quite far away, so we had to take a ride there in car. This went on for two weeks, however, it was every two days. My dog had a lot of fun riding the car and sticking her head out the window, even more than walking on the street!

The final dog I ended up walking was one of my friends' golden retriever. She was very uneasy and always wanted to run, so I was challenged since the other dogs I've walked were mostly tranquil. Their family left for a week and I was tasked with walking the dog and making sure it had food and water, and it was very fun to do. He also lives nearby, making it perfect to walk on the way there.

All in all, this was a very fun project to do over the year and even though I did not have the opportunity to take care of more pets, the ones that I did have the chance to walk and feed were great. I hope I can keep visiting these pets in the future and maybe even start taking care of other animals.
